SANITY SAVING THINGS TO DO WITH KIDS IN ALBURY

If the words “I’m bored” feel like nails going down a chalkboard to you, you’re not alone. To help deter the dreaded “b” word from leaving your child’s lips, we’ve compiled a list of nine things to do with kids in Albury. Additionally, five out of the nine are based indoors which comes in handy when it’s raining outside too.

Inflatable Funhouse

Ok, so technically the Inflatable Funhouse resides over in our sister town of Wodonga but really, we can’t go past mentioning the only indoor inflatable play centre in our Albury Wodonga region.

Let the kids expend their boundless energy across the collection of inflatable bouncing castles that are guaranteed to deliver hours of fun. And with tickets starting at just $10 a session, how can you say no?

MAMA

The Murray Art Museum Albury, or as we all like to call it, “MAMA”, is a great place to take the kids for a spot of cultural immersion that will help distract their attention away from those screens.

The Museum often hosts a number of kid-friendly activities along with special installations that are designed especially for the little guys, aiming to engage their creative minds. It’s a must-stop attraction that the whole family will enjoy.

Corowa Whisky and Chocolate

Just a 45 minute drive away from Albury you’ll find the delightful Corowa Whisky and Chocolate Factory. We know what you’re thinking, why would I take my kids to a whisky distillery?

Well, the friendly team there hosts daily Rocky Road and Giant Chocolate Freckle making classes. It’s an easy way to get the kids to use their hands and test their creativity. And whilst you’re there, it would be rude not to enjoy a sneaky whisky tasting. It’s a win-win.

Wonga Wetlands

We’ve talked about Wonga Wetlands before in our things to do that only a local would know blog, but it’s worth mentioning again here and for good reason.

On those better weather days, you can’t go past a visit to this natural oasis. Open to visitors year-round, it’s a great way to get the kids outside and exploring. Keep them on their toes and see how many different bird species they can spot. With over 176 types of birds calling Wonga Wetlands home, here’s betting you will keep the kids happily distracted for hours on end.

Chocolate Labrador

The word chocolate is enough to send kids and adults alike into a mouthwatering daydream. However, reality is always better and the best way to entertain the kids and satisfy those chocolate cravings is to head to Albury’s favourite chocolate shop, Chocolate Labrador

Peruse through aisles of chocolate delicacies or get them sipping on fluffy milkshakes to while away the time.

Gateway Island

We have to admit we are spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful parkland here in Albury and Gateway Island is no different. Grab the kids, pack a picnic, and head for this 10km stretch of trail that runs along the iconic Murray River between Albury and Wodonga.

If you time it right you can also sample local delicacies at the Farmer’s Market which sets up shop every second Saturday morning.

Horseshoe Lagoon Jetty

Get the kids hook, line, and sinker by taking them along to Horseshoe Lagoon for a spot of fishing.

Part of the Moama’s Wetland and Floodplain Reserve, the horseshoe-shaped lagoon and billabong is home to a number of native birds, animals, plants, and fish so there’s plenty to look at whilst you wait to hook your next meal.

Bounce Wodonga

Coming in at our most expensive option across this list, trust us, Bounce is a sanity-saving, $19.50 per child well spent.

Probably the best boredom-killer going round, Bounce Wodonga will keep the kids happily distracted (and mercifully exhausted), thanks to their interconnected trampolines, dodge ball court, slam-dunking lanes, playground, and high ropes course.

Outdoor Play Parks

The classic outdoor Play Park is still a winner when it comes to keeping kids off their screens and exerting that pent-up energy they always seem to hold. Here in Albury, we have two great play park options for hours of entertainment.

First, there’s Noreuil Park, which is right next door to us. It’s perfect for kids aged 1-5. It’s conveniently located right near our takeaway kiosk so you can easily grab a takeaway coffee to enjoy whilst watching the kids run amok.

Alternatively, make your way to Oddies, which is suited more to children aged 3 years and up. The 2,000 square metre, fully-fenced play space, offers a mix of fun and entertaining features like a 30-metre long flying fox, giant birds nest swing, and even a complex climbing net.
