Home and Away
Belgian born restauranteur Alex Smit and Mauritian head chef Ludo Baulacky are both married to local Aussie lasses but the exotic duo bring a cosmopolitan touch to a fab dining option at Albury on the NSW-Victorian border.
The River Deck sits in Noreuil Park by the Murray River in grassy surroundings criss-crossed with walking and cycling paths. The 120-seat space, with pale mountain ash floorboards and chic Scandi-style furniture, has been expanded from a kiosk into a contemporary pavilion with bags of space and light. The River Deck offers year-round breakfasts, lunches and dinners (Wednesdays to Sundays in winter) with a focus on parish produce and Australian wines. Baulacky adds a sprinkling of tiny edible flowers to a delicious entree of cured salmon ceviche with plump prawns and their torn, crisped shells, accompanied by cucumber and smoky yoghurt.
